Roles to Know: The Basics
SlikNinjaZ brings us a new series to help newer players to team CS understand and thrive!
What’s up, it’s ya boi, uhh, Skinny Peni… I mean SlikNinjaZ, your favorite writer. I wanted to get a little piece out there to share with you what is to come. We (me) are gonna hit you with several pieces hopefully within the next few days or so outlining roles within team cs, and what is expected of you when you fill those roles. Obviously, this isn’t going to be one-to-one for every franchise and their teams, but in general should give you a good idea on what role you would like to play, and what would be expected of you if you do choose to play that role in your team setting. This will also give players a good BASE to build off of when they are creating their team. Every team SHOULD have these roles existing in some way to really have a solid all around team. Don’t believe me? Well you should based on absolutely no concrete evidence, but just simply on the fact that I know best. Clearly everyone who I have played with has never once complained about the role that I play ;).
Ok, so what roles should we expect to learn about in these series of articles? Well, I break roles down into 3 main categories: t-side, ct-side, and macro. Obviously, t-side and ct-side roles are pretty self-explainitory. Macro roles are roles that are filled outside of CS directly, and more so filled in the team space in general. Usually, these roles can be occupied both ct and t side, but sometimes can shift around due to playstyles, igl rules, and such other things. Roles can also be a bit map specific. Some maps maybe you are a lurker, but others you feel more comfortable in the entry position. That is fine, just make sure to communicate that to your team, to make sure they can make the best of your abilities. Otherwise, they may just ASSUME that you are filling certain spots based on the roles you fill in other maps.
T-side roles include: Entry, Second-In, Pack Rifler, Awper, Lurker, Support.
CT-side roles include: Small Site Anchor, Big Site Anchor, Site Rotator, Mid Rotator, Awper. (these roles are a little more map dependent, but we will talk more about those later.)
Macro roles include: IGL, Second Voice, Money Manager, Area Captain, Vibe Officer?
These are all the roles I could currently think of off the top of my head, but I will add anything else down the line if I need to. I will be writing pieces on all these roles and what can be expected of players who fill these roles. I will also talk about the most common combos for roles, especially for new players that are trying to understand team cs, or players who have been around for a while but have been struggling to find their impact. This should be a fun series that people follow along, that I hope is helpful for the new players and the old heads alike. Strap in, we are going for a ride.
